UT Austin iSchool Alumna Appointed Director of Communications

Keisha Brown, Director of Communications - University of Teas at Austin School of Information

The University of Texas at Austin School of Information welcomes back one of its own graduates, Keisha Laneé Brown, as the school’s first Director of Communications. In this new role, Brown will lead the implementation of the iSchool’s strategic marketing and communication efforts.

“As an alumna, I know firsthand what an amazing place the iSchool is. The diversity of research and professional interests explored here are what first drew me to the school. I love how the interdisciplinary nature of our programs foster a rich community that continues to grow as new technologies necessitate innovation in information management. This is why I’m most excited to be back,” Brown said. “There’s no other community like the UT Austin iSchool.”

Brown brings a decade of content strategy and digital marketing experience to the Director of Communications position. Prior to joining the iSchool staff, Brown was a web content manager at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). She earned her master’s degree from the UT Austin iSchool in 2017 and holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Howard University.

Dean Eric T. Meyer said the time is right for this new role: “The iSchool plays an important role at UT Austin, across Texas, and within the global iSchools community. Our new Director of Communications will help us tell the stories of the amazing things our faculty, staff, and students are achieving. Keisha really stood out from a stellar pool of applications because of her commitment to the iSchool mission and her focus on using stories to connect people and ideas.”

As Director of Communications, Brown is looking forward to collaborating with the school’s vibrant community of students, faculty, and staff to showcase the iSchool’s exemplary leadership and advocacy for the important role that information professionals play in the 21st century. “I’m excited to share all of the great things happening at the UT Austin iSchool, including promoting the incredible research of our faculty and students, and celebrating the impact that our iSchoolers are making in their professional fields,” she said.
