Colloquium: David Cuartielles (Malmö University) - Interaction Design Research for Knowledge Production
12:30 to 2 p.m.
UTA 5.522 (Large Conference Room)

Abstract: In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, the role of interaction design research has become increasingly pivotal in facilitating the creation and dissemination of knowledge. This engaging talk, titled "Interaction Design Research for Knowledge Production - Boundary Objects that make people meet," explores the dynamic intersection between interaction design and knowledge production. The session will begin by illuminating the significance of interaction design in our information-driven society, where knowledge is not only a valuable resource but also a key driver of innovation and progress. By focusing on the idea of boundary objects, the speaker will delve into how interaction design can serve as a bridge connecting diverse individuals, disciplines, and domains. Attendees will gain insights into the multifaceted nature of boundary objects in the context of knowledge production. These objects, whether they be digital tools, platforms, or even physical artifacts, have the unique ability to facilitate collaboration among individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences, and expertise. This talk will present case studies, showcasing real-world examples of boundary objects that have effectively brought people together to create, share, and exchange knowledge. Furthermore, the speaker will discuss the principles and methodologies of interaction design research, illustrating how these methods can be employed to craft boundary objects that enhance collaboration and knowledge creation. The audience will discover the latest trends and best practices in interaction design, which are essential for harnessing the full potential of boundary objects. Finally, the session will culminate with a look toward the future of interaction design research in the realm of knowledge production. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the critical role that interaction design plays in shaping the way we interact with information, connect with others, and ultimately drive innovation and the creation of new knowledge. This thought-provoking talk is ideal for interaction designers, researchers, educators, and anyone interested in the evolving landscape of knowledge production in our interconnected world. It will inspire attendees to think creatively about how they can leverage interaction design to craft boundary objects that make people meet, collaborate, and collectively shape the future of knowledge.
