I. Archives Week:
- A. Speakers
- Molly notified us that Andras Reidlmayer has agreed to speak on October
10th. The time we agreed to was 7:00 p.m.
- Ben reported that he continues to be in touch with the Texas Freedom
of Information Foundation, and that they will be providing us with a list
of localjournalists who could speak about George W. Bush's gubernatorial
papers. The group agreed that we should also request that the speaker(s)
address President Bush's executive order. Ben also reported that he had
been in touch wit the ACLU, who were unsure of how they could help.
- Addy reported on her contact with the John Cerone, Director of the War
Crimes Research Office. We decided not to pursue him as a speaker.
- Dr. Gracy mentioned that he would be giving his annual speech to freshman
on the topic of forgery. It was agreed that he would try to hold it on
Monday afternoon of Archives Week, October 8.
- The Board decided not to pursue any other speakers
- B. Fundraising
- Molly has secured $200 in donations
- Ben reported that he has had positive responses from the six UT departments
he has contacted, and that Slavic Languages has agreed to make a donation.
It was suggested that he contact GSLIS as well.
- Trish reported that she has made contact with Bookpeople and Half Price
Books. Both businesses are still considering contributing.
- Ron has drafted a letter, which Molly has signed and sent to Continental
Airlines asking for discounted airfare.
- Addy is still working on Kraft and T.R.U.E.
- Traci reported on her efforts to contact Lady Bird Johnson and Bernard
Rappaport.. It was decided that we should not pursue a donation from Lady
Bird, and that Traci will draft a letter to Mr. Rappaport.
- Mugs: So far we have sold 28 mugs. If anyone needs mugs they should
get them from Dixie.
- C. Publicity & Proclamation
- Molly suggested that we try to get our events on the main UT web page.
- We agreed to look the images that Andras has offered to us for publicity.
- We discussed obtaining the proclamation of Archives Week from the City
Council and possibly from the Governor's Office.
- D. Giveaways
- We decided to give away the giveaways at the speakers and the clinic.
- We need to order our supply by the last week in August. We will have
to review our budget at that time to determine what we will order.
- E. Clinic
- Traci will go to the Austin History Center and advise on how the room
should be set up.
- Traci and Dixie will contact University Products, Light Impressions
and Hollinger to try to obtain pamphlets and catalogs to give away.
- The possibility of making up a special mug order form for Clinic-goers
including local postage costs was discussed
II. Other Matters
- There was much discussion as to whether we should receive National Chapter
applications, and whether they were even required. It was decided that we
would continue to accept and forward national applications for new members.
- We decided that new members could give an application to any Board member,
who would then pass it on to Traci.
- Dr. Gracy has tentatively proposed having a SAA potluck at his home on the
dates of Sept. 13th, and a PCS/Archives potluck at his home on Sept. 27th.
- We agreed to discuss the possibility of having an Archives happy hour for
new students via the listserv.
Meeting adjourned at 6:35pm
