UT iSchool and Computer Science Department Launch Five-Year Integrated Masters

The School of Information and the UT Computer Science Department now offer a five-year integrated master's program whereby a student can earn a Bachelor's in Computer Science and a Master of Science in Information Studies degree. Students in the program will be able to complete the integrated program in five academic years of full-time study-one year less than it would take to complete the two degrees individually and consecutively. Students can begin applying for these programs in spring 2015 and the programs will begin fall 2015.

"This joint degree taps the talents of two nationally ranked programs at UT. This unique education will combine strong technical skills with a deep understanding of the human factors that are central to good design. Our aim is to create the leaders of a new information age," says Andrew Dillon, Dean of the School of Information.

This program is ideal for students who want to broaden their CS background of back-end technologies to include front-end design, user experience and policy studies. Graduates of the program will be uniquely qualified for professional positions that require diverse perspectives on information, leadership, and technical depth such as human-computer interaction design, user experience and usability design, information architecture, and the design, development, and management of digital services in governmental, academic, or corporate institutions, as well as for competitive Ph.D. programs in computer science and information studies.
