I. Religious Archives Forum
The Religious Archives Forum will be held on 13 April 2006, from 4-5 in
SZB 468. Refreshments will be provided. Sarah passed around a draft of
the flier advertising the event, and all present offered suggestions
and made changes. Sidney will purchase refreshments; Ed will be
responsible for posting fliers.
II. SAA Listserv
Group discussion about whether or not to disable the "reply all"
setting for the listserv, come up with another solution to prevent
people from accidentally replying to the entire list rather than an
individual, or leave the settings as they are now. The group agreed to
add "[SAA]" to the front of the address to make it more obvious when an
email has been addressed to the entire list. We will revisit the issue
at a later date if necessary. Sarah asked that next time we limit this
discussion to a smaller audience (e.g., the board) rather than
involving the entire listserv.
III. Archives Week
Sarah asked board members to think of people we'd like to have as a
keynote speaker or a panelist at Archives Week and send her a list of
names by the end of the month. The goal is to make a decision by the
end of the month about which speaker(s) to approach. She will also send
an email to the UT-SAA list, soliciting suggestions. The ideal panel
will consist of 4-5 members, not all of whom are archivists.
IV. Summer Events
Sarah proposed inviting Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra, author of How
to Write the History of the New World, for a brown bag or informal
lunch with students over the summer.
The group also discussed the possibility of visiting SBC and the the
UTSA archives over the summer. Javier mentioned that UTSA might be
willing to open up for a tour on a weekend if we contacted them a
couple of months in advance. The Alamo archives were also mentioned as
a possibility for a tour.
A tour of the Littlefield home, arranged by Dr. Gracy, and a Bastille
Day potluck or barbecue were considered as other possible summer
events. The group agreed to revisit these items at the next meeting.
This meeting will be the last one until the end of the semester.
