28 January 2004 MEETING MINUTES
Next Meeting: Wednesday 11 February 2004
Present: Daniel Alonzo, Mary Anne MarDock, Aubrey Carrier, Ron Drees, Catherine Stollar, Jean Davin, Leah Billingsley, Robin Howard, Dr. David Gracy, Vanessa Cameron.
Daniel called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m.
I. Elections
* In order to facilitate a smooth transition of the UT-SAA Board, we would
like to hold elections as soon as possible.
* Nominations for the 2004/2005 officers will end Friday 13 February. Interested
students are encouraged to nominate themselves.
* Voting will take place the week following the nomination deadline, ending
Friday 20 February.
* Daniel will send out messages to the iSchool listservs with further details.
* Catherine rewrote the Officers Duties descriptions, linking each position
to specific Archives Week responsibilities. The rewritten descriptions allow
for flexibility, while preparing new officers for what will be expected of them
during planning and execution of Archives Week.
II. Copyright Law for Archivists Lecture
* UT Law School graduate Georgia Harper will be speaking about copyright later
today at the HRC, focusing on copyright in archives and libraries.
* Dr. Gracy will find out if we have permission to post Ms. Harpers lecture
notes on the UT-SAA website or at least the internal listserv. If not, Aubrey
will take notes on the lecture.
III. Mexico Trip
* Several students expressed interest in reviving the Mexico trip.
* Daniel will contact George in Mexico to determine viable trip dates.
IV. HRC Tour
* Catherine will arrange a tour of the HRCs current exhibit, Make It New: The Rise of Modernism. The date is tentatively set for Friday 13 February at 12:00 noon.
V. Religious Archives Panel
* Possible themes for the panel include collection policies, archival holdings,
and the challenges of working in the religious sector.
* The panel is tentatively scheduled for early April.
VI. SAA Student Poster Session
* At least two representatives from UT-SAA, Daniel and Mary Anne, are planning
to attend the 2004 SAA conference in Boston.
* Suggested topics for the UT-SAA poster included a retrospective of Archives
Week 2003, the Mexico trip (if it takes place), and student papers or projects.
* Students are invited to submit any other ideas to the Board.
VII. Next Meeting
* The next meeting will be held Wednesday 11 February at 1 p.m. in SZB 556.
Daniel adjourned the meeting at 1:45 p.m.
