The "Digital Libraries—Beyond the Desktop" workshop will be held on June 16th and 17th, 2011 in Ottawa, Canada in conjunction with the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries. We solicit your participation to make this workshop a success.

The wide adoption of mobile, small-screen devices and large-screen, table-top displays have broadened the digital as well as physical environments for accessing digital materials. This workshop aims to bring together practitioners and researchers who are interested in harnessing this digital design space, with its diverse device characteristics, in support of digital collections. Whilst attention has been focused patrons’ use of mobile devices for accessing DL material, these technologies have potential relevance for all roles in digital libraries: curators, archivists, librarians, readers, etc. This workshop will address the issues and challenges in the creation, development and maintenance of collections; system architectures; administration, access and management; user interfaces and requirements engineering; evaluation models; policy implications for digital collections, and so on.

The goal is both to assemble the existing community as well as invite those with emerging interests in this area. A secondary goal is to focus the attention of the digital libraries community on the tremendous opportunities for research in this space and for collaborating with researchers in other areas.
