portrait I'm a doctoral candidate at the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin where I study classification systems. I'm interested in the design of organizing systems and how these invisible layers of information infrastructure come to represent—or conflict with—the needs and values of their users and collections. The research page details some of my work in this and related areas. I am currently writing my dissertation, an ethnography of volunteer classification designers for a large fanfiction repository.

My committee consists of Melanie Feinberg and Diane Bailey as co-advisors as well as James Howison, Karen Wickett, and David Ribes.
