I am doctoral student at the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. After years of working as a librarian and information specialist, I am pursuing my doctoral degree in information studies while investigating issues of community information sharing behaviors, particularly in respect to the use and creation of digital resources. I am interested in learning how specialized information (and sometimes misinformation) moves from communities of experts into the areas of broader public consumption, how credibility is established, and how values-conscious methodologies can be a part of information study.

I am currently completing my dissertation examining the work of professional science journalists and their use and evaluation of expert scientific sources in writing for diverse audiences. This study informs my ongoing exploration of credibility and knowledge exchange in public/expert communications mediated by digital technology. Additionally, this site of study has supported my emerging interests in citizen journalism, citizen science projects, data journalism, and social network analysis as a tool to understand information flows.
