Texts (order as soon as you meet the first class)

Antoinette Burton (ed.), Archive Stories: Facts, Fictions and the Writing of History (Duke, 2005). Check online (available on Kindle for $14.55, paperback for 28.95 new; Amazon has free postage for textbooks). Also available at the Coop.

Terry Cook (ed.), Controlling the Past: Documenting Society and Institutions (SAA, 2011). Won't be available for any better price than from SAA, discount if you are an SAA member and order from SAA: List $56 Member $39.95. I have ordered it at the Coop so it should be there if you want instant gratification, but it will probably be very expensive.

To look at digital materials, you'll need to acquire from SAA's "Trends in Archives Practice" series, Appraisal and Acquisition Strategies, edited by Michael Shallcross and Christopher Prom and including assigned readings "Appraising Digital Records" by Geof Huth and "Collecting Digital Manuscripts and Archives" by Megan Barnard and Gabriela Redwine. List $34.99, member $24.99. A pdf or epub will cost the same.

Available as an e-book from PCL:

Barbara Craig, Archival Appraisal, Theory and Practice (Munich, 2004).

Other readings:

Available on Canvas or direct from the journal sites through the PCL catalog or directly online as listed.
