I have forever been in awe of visionaries who have led technology through intelligent innovations and have executed their visions to make the world a better place to live. I don’t find myself contended with any other bliss than to make a functional engineering system possible that I design, build and accomplish by resourcefully applying my software knowledge. Through the four years of working as an Information Technology (IT) software developer, I have continually realized that usability of a technological idea is just as important as the idea’s adept architecture and design.

I have always been interested in databases and web development. I have worked as a software engineer for 2 years and have good knowledge of back-end web development using programming languages like Java. A masters at the iSchool would help me get a deeper understanding in the field of user experience and databases. The iSchool has the resources to help me reach this goal. Moreover, what makes iSchool the perfect choice is that it is in Austin, the live music capital of the world and an upcoming Tech hub.

I decided to attend graduate school at the iSchool because I wanted to enhance my career path. The curriculum, location, and ranking of the iSchool made this program especially appealing. The position I held before moving to Austin to attend the iSchool entailed doing market research and utilizing my experience to help develop a database of the collected data. The job shaped my career trajectory; I knew I wanted to further pursue research, databases, and user experience.

As a user interface designer, I worked in UX and creative industry for more than 2 years, I wanted to pursue deeper understanding about user experience and HCI, so I decided to apply for iSchool. After I joined iSchool, I also devoted myself in community services to get involved with the city and local UX industry, such as working as volunteer in SXSW 2015 and Enterprise UX 2015.

When I applied to Master's programs in China, I got three offers from USC, UT, and IUPUI. The first one is a CS program and the other two are focused on HCI. I am more passionate on UX design than on coding, that is why I chose iSchool at UT, considering Austin is such a good city to live. During summer 2015, I interned at SunGard Financial Systems as a visual design intern. I have also volunteered at SXSW Music Panels Crew, Designing for Digital Conference and F1 USGP Sustainability Crew.

I previous majored in computer engineering, focusing on how to implement and make things functional. However, I found it difficult to make users interact with the application I developed, in effect, they were reluctant to use it. I began to understand that it is very important to make an application more intuitive and user-friendly. I believe that's one of the biggest reasons why Apple is growing so fast in the past few years and that's why I chose to learn more about user experience.
