Randolph Bias Teaches Summer Institute Course in Lisbon

UT Austin professors Randolph Bias and Joan Hughes completed their Summer Institute courses in Lisbon late last month. Bias, a member of the School of Information and a recognized authority on usability, led a two-week class on Usability and User-Centered Design. Hughes, of the UT College of Education, is an expert on technology and education and taught Teaching and Learning with the Internet. The Summer Institute is now launching in Porto, beginning with Sharon Strover’s course on Research Methods, which will survey a range of quantitative and qualitative approaches, preparing doctoral students for their dissertation research. This will be followed in late June by Game Design and Development, taught by Bruce Pennycook of the UT Butler School of Music in collaboration with António Coelho of Informatics Engineering at U. Loriene Roy Receives Two Distinguished Awards

A double congratulations is in order to our own Dr. Roy for getting two awards recently:

  • the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Library School Alumni Association of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • the 2014 Sarah Vann Award from the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa Library & Information Science Program. This is the tenth year they have given the award, but the first time to someone who lives outside of Hawai‘i. The award is presented to people who advance librarianship in Hawai‘i within the areas of intellectual freedom and international issues. Loriene was nominated for the Vann Award in recognition of her service to librarianship in Hawai‘i, especially from the perspective of international librarianship, as well as her encouragement of librarianship grounded in serving the indigenous peoples of Hawai‘i
