"Psalm 76:20-21, Moses leads Israel"

folio 99 v: The end of Psalm 76: 20-21

TRANSLATION

"You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron."

DESCRIPTION

This page differs significantly from the surrounding pages, with its prevailing illustration occupying the whole page. Designed as such, the page visually ends the first division of the Psalter. Thematically, the illustration signifies leadership in the line of Moses and Aaron, reminding the Stoudious Monastery abbot about his leadership role in the monastic community.
This full-page illustration consists of four registers of illustrations. The whole set of illustrations is framed by two rivers paralleled by the flowing words of the psalms, written in gold uncials. The first register of illustrations portrays the enthroned Christ sitting and framed by two trees, and the second illustration portrays people walking, bordered by sheep. The third register portrays Moses carrying his staff, leading an old man and followed by sheep, and the forth register portrays Aaron leading a young bearded man, also followed by sheep.

INSRIPTIONS
Three red inscriptions, "Jesus Christ," "Moses," and "Aaron," identify the figures in the illustrations.
