"Psalm 98:1-5, Saint John Chrysostom performs the ritual for the elevation of the cross feast"

folio 131 v: Psalm 98:1-5, Saint John Chrysostom and the exaltation of the Cross

TRANSLATION

"The Lord reigns, let the peoples tremble
He dwells between the cherubim
let the earth be moved.
The Lord is great in Zion, and he is high above all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name-
He is holy.
The king's strength also loves justice,
You have established equity
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
"Exalt ye the Lord our God
and worship at his footstool He is holy."

DESCRIPTION

An illustration in the bottom margin of the verso of the page portrays St. John Chrysostom on a platform of Hagia Sophia. A deacon censers in front of him, and monks stand behind him. The illustration is linked through two gold links and one red link with Psalm 98:5. Above the illustration, a inscription states " Chrysostom exalts the honored cross."

LITURGICAL USE

The verse is used liturgically for the feast of the Elevation of the Cross (September 14) and as an antiphon and prokimeinon verse.
