"Psalm 4:4-5:2, David prays to Christ"

folio 3 v: David prays to Christ, Psalm 4:4-5:2

TRANSLATION

"There are many say: who will show us any good?"
Lord, lift up the light of your countenance upon us.
You have put gladness in my heart more than
in the season that their grain and wine increased.
I will both lie down in peace and sleep
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
5:1 Give ear to my words, O Lord
consider my meditation.
Give heed to the voice of my cry
My king and my God for you I will pray."

DESCRIPTION

The illustration is one of two appearing in the left margin of the page. David raises his hands in prayer to a clipeate icon of Christ, looking down from the Cross. A red inscription states "Jesus Christ" and "David says."

LITURGICAL USE

The Psalm is used liturgically as a koinonikon verse on September 14 for the feast of the Elevation of the Cross.
