Events

We sponsor events for all iSchool students to attend. Scroll down to see examples of past and ongoing events that we have hosted. Besides events, SASI also offers conference grants, manages the iSchool merchandise, and provides various types of tea in the kitchen of our student lounge.

New Student Orientation

With the beginning of the fall semester, all of the iSchool student organizations, including SASI, set up welcome tables. At our table, new students can purchase merchandise, ask questions, receive informative handouts, and generally find a warm welcome. Remember, you won't find a membership sign-up sheet at our table because all students are automatically members of SASI. If the weather permits, we then usually adjourn to the Dog & Duck pub adjacent to the iSchool to continue the welcoming festivities.

Gone To Texas

Along with the iSchool's orientation each August, UT hosts an event called Gone To Texas, which is a massive celebration- held just before the start of classes- of all things UT. As you can see in from the right-hand image above, the iSchool had premium front-and-center seats in 2010. SASI officers, after eating at the Dog & Duck, escorted all new interested iSchool students to the event, and because they had such a blast, SASI hopes to make this an ongoing tradition. For more on Gone To Texas, visit the event page here.

Tea with the Dean

Every semester SASI arranges for all iSchool students to have an opportunity to join in conversation with the Dean over a cup of tea. They can hear what he has to say about the university dynamics that imact us on a daily basis, and ask questions or give feedback to affect change.

iSchoolers Playing With Others

In the fall of 2010, SASI co-hosted an event at the Dog & Duck Pub with UT's LBJ School of Public Affairs (pictured above). Graduate students from both schools had an opportunity to mingle and discuss their various programs over a drink. In the spring of2011 SASI also co-hosted a mixer with the Computer Science Department, again at the Dog & Duck. The turnout for both events was excellent!

In the recent past the iSchool started a kickball team called Dublin Hardcore, featuring an angry shamrock logo, and some former iSchoolers still play on this local kickball team. UT's intramural sports program is alive and well, and all iSchoolers are encouraged to join the Dublin Hardcore kickball league and commence with creating epic rivalries among other schools.

Austin Edible Book Festival

This is a delightful April Fool's tradition that we had hosted for the past several years. Recently, the iSchool's Artex student group has taken the reigns in planning this event, but SASI is still a co-sponsor. To learn more about the festival, please visit the iSchool's EBF website.
