About
Overview and Mission
The Student Association of the School of Information is the official council for the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. We are registered with the Office of the Dean of Students as an Officially Sponsored Student Organization.
Our mission is to promote a sense of community within the iSchool and foster professionalism and leadership within our student body. We serve as a link between School of Information students and the administration of the School and the University. We are a member of the Senate of College Councils and appoint representatives to the Graduate Student Association and other committees.
If you are a School of Information student, you are automatically a constituent of SASI! It’s that easy! There are many benefits to membership including networking, opportunities for leadership, community building, and volunteering. Visit the Get Involved link from the SASI homepage to learn more.
The SASI Armadillo:
Our iSchool armadillo mascot was created in 1979 by Ben Sargent, a UT graduate who went on to become a Pulitzer prize winning editorial cartoonist for the Austin American Statesman. It was originally commissioned by the previous incarnation of the official iSchool student organization, then called GLISSA (Graduate School of Library and Information Science Student Association). In 2010, the SASI co-directors rediscovered the mascot from within old GLISSA files, and they proudly reinstated it for everyone's appreciation.
