ADAMS Activities for June Thursday, June 1, 7-8 PM, HRHRC, Ed Nowotka, An Ode to Typewriters, . Ed Nowotka, is a book critic and writer. He will host a panel discussion of writers who compose on typewriters. For more information please visit the HRHRC Programs Website . Tuesday- Friday, June 20-23, 8 AM - 5 PM, Austin Hotel and HRHRC, ACRL Rare Books and Manuscripts Section Pre Conference. The 47th Annual Preconference of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries of the American Library Association will be held in Austin June 20-23, 2006, in Austin, Texas prior to the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. This year's theme: "Libraries, Archives, and Museums in the Twenty-First Century: Intersecting Missions, Converging Futures?" invites participants from the library, museum, and archival fields to join together in investigating common concerns relating to their shared missions to acquire, preserve, and make accessible the world's cultural artifacts and historical documents. The local arrangements committee is looking for volunteers to staff the registration booth at the Intercontinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel, 701 Congress St., and at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, 21st and Guadalupe. Volunteers are asked to work 2 hour shifts and will be responsible for handing over the conference bags and badges to already registered attendees and answering questions about Austin/UT/program/logistics. Registration for the conference is now at capacity (350).The hours would be:Tues. 8 - 5, hotel lobby Wed. 8 - 12, hotel lobby

ADDED EVENT, Friday, June 23, Noon-1:30 PM, SZB 556, Video: Teleconference on "Confronting the Crisis in Library Education. Join us for screening of the video of the 9 June 2006 teleconference, "Confronting the Crisis in Library Education." The panel is composed of ALA President M. Gorman and other librarian and library education professionals. Bring lunch/snacks and feel free to discuss the merits/viewpoints of the presentation. This is especially helpful as part of an environmental scan as the school develops it's new strategic plan and prepares for the 2007 accreditation process. Dr. Powell is a Professor of Classics at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He will focus on the nature and origin of the Greek alphabet. Join us as Dr. Gracy takes us through the beautiful Victorian home on 24th and Whitis. We will meet outside the house and all go in together. Friday, August 18, 8 AM-8 PM, San Antonio, Tours of AT&T Archives and UTSA Archives. Bill Caughlin will show us the new AT&T archives (formerly SBC) in the morning. Lunch will follow, then we will head out to UTSA where Traci Drummond will take us on a tour of the university archives there. It will be a long day, but it will also be one packed full of fun and interesting information. This event is open to all students interested in archives. This Website was created by senior Ph.D. students for all Ph.D. students (and anyone else interested) to fill the information gap between official information and more informal information desired by many Ph.D. students. This Homepage provides announcements (if any) and summaries of current and future activities that might specifically be of interest to Ph.D. students in the iSchool. The links on the left sidebar provide access to other information that you might find useful. If you are a new Ph.D. student, we suggest you read the orientation page (link on the left sidebar) for things you need or might like to know. More senior Ph.D. students might also want to review this page occasionally to see how things have changed. Items on this Webpage are normally updated weekly during the long semesters and monthly during the summer semester. Additions and changes to the current week or month as well as special announcements are noted in red (or other appropriate color) .
