In the fall of 2002, the Ph.D. students began a series of Colloquia to share their previous and ongoing work. The Ph.D. Colloquia Series provided Ph.D. students the opportunity to share their work in a friendly environment. The attendees were Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) [the predecessor of the School of Information], and visiting Ph.D. students from other UT schools, and professors who were interested in the GSLIS Ph.D. program. Typical format was a presentation of a topic by the discussion leader followed by a short discussion on the topic. The colloquia were scheduled immediately preceding the Ph.D. seminar, which was 4-7 PM on Fridays during the 2002-2003 academic year. This reduced schedule conflicts with most Ph.D. students and professors. Initially, some students and faculty participated but the faculty quickly lost interest by mid fall and the students lost interest in early spring.
