Bio
One of twelve scholars in the United States to pursue doctoral studies in library preservation, Maria combines field and research experience in teaching and writing about preservation. As a consultant to the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), Maria tailors preservation workshops and adapts materials to better address the cultural and technical concerns of archives, libraries, and museums in the tropics. She is the author of HURACAN CARIBE, a bilingual guide on hurricane preparedness for Caribbean institutions. She has investigated the administration and preservation policies of library and archival collections in Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Dutch Antilles, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad as well as in the United States . Her work draws on twenty-two years of experience in business development and project management.
In 2004, she was selected Editorial Fellow for Libraries & Culture, an interdisciplinary journal that explores the significance of the cultural record.
