November 1-3, Kilgarlin Center, School of Information, University of Texas at Austin

The symposium brings together architects, engineers and library and museum professionals to examine the environmental impact of cultural institutions.

  Vilassar de Dalt
The castle at Vilassar de Dalt is located approximately 26 miles northeast of Barcelona, on a hill, overlooking the Mediterranean. Since 1999, I have served as the director for the project to re-house the collection. Each summer two conservation students and I travel to Vilassar to work in the archives. So far we have re-housed most of the collection in custom made boxes and flattened approximately 500 parchment documents.
  Delphi Study: Conservation to preservation
In 2006, Erin Hammeke and I undertook a project to examine the ramifications of the shift from conservation to preservation. The study engaged a panel of highly respected conservation professionals to exchange ideas about the challenges we face. We presented the results of this study at the Fifth International Conference of the Institute of Paper Conservation in Edinburgh, Scotland, July, 2006.
  Mississippi workshops
In July, 2006 I traveled to Mississippi with Lois Price, Book Conservator and Lecturer, Winterthur to present a series of disaster recovery workshops and consult with several libraries and archives in the area. Two conservation students, Jo-Fan Huang and Annie Wilker assisted us with the workshops and site visits.
  City Park Archives
In January, 2006, my husband, Red Wassenich and I traveled to New Orleans to work with the City Park Archive which had been severely damaged in Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We spent a week drying paper and removing mold from architectural drawings and photographs. There is much more that needs to be done.
