The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 (IGRA) legalized
gambling on American Indian land.
The National Indian Gaming Commission, a federal agency, oversees
gaming. You will see from the
sources below that gaming is a controversial topic, with supporters and
detractors. There are many journal
articles, books, studies and websites devoted to this topic. I picked a sampling of the many
resources that are available, and hope that you can use them as a starting
point.
National Indian Gaming Commission

Federal agency that regulates
gaming activities on American Indian lands. The Commission was established as a
result of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. You will find a list of all of the
casinos and also annual revenue.
National Indian Gaming Association
Represents 184 tribes with casinos. The Association provides many services to its members. Conferences, trade shows, roundtables, and a library and resource center are some of the services offered. The library and resource center home page has an Indian Gaming Facts section.
