These cast plaster groupings were in fair to poor condition. They were covered in dust and grime, and suffered from paint losses, plaster losses, and pitting. The groupings were dusted with soft-bristled brushes, and gently cleaned with cotton swabs and saliva. Pitted areas were injected with 10-20% B72 in ethanol as a consolidant. Paint losses were coated with a barrier of 10% B72 in ethanol before inpainting. Losses were filled with plaster mixed with a drop of PVA, and resculpted as necessary. Paint losses and plaster fills were inpainted with colormatched acrylic paints mixed with latex. |
