Along with fellow conservation student, Tonia Grafakos, and the Kilgarlin Center's paper conservation instructor, Karen Pavelka, I spent June - July 2007 in Vilassar de Dalt, Spain working for the Marques de Santa Maria de Barbara y de la Manresana at his home and private archives of El Castillo de Vilassar de Dalt. Our work consisted of humidifying and flattening hundreds of parchment documents from the 12th - 19th centuries. Additionally, we designed and built two custom archival enclosures for oversized rolled documents and fifty-six drop-spine boxes.
Please take a look at various photos detailing the materials found within the archives and the work undertaken.
