Sixteenth-Century Sewn Cords Model

 

Description:

Quarter-style alum-tawed laced on board tightback binding sewn on double supports with a herringbone stitch. Endbands sewn off the book and adhered to spine. Spine lined with vellum and alum-tawed goat panel linings adhered to the inside of the boards, but not to the spine folds. Clasps cut and shaped from brass strips and attached to strips of alum-tawed pig backed with sheep vellum.
