Professional and community service
My service work extends my research and teaching interests into spheres beyond my own school.
- My research into Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) led quite naturally into the Supporting International Longhorn Families (SILF) project. The SILF project began in a discussion at the Center for Women and Gender Studies about the IPV concerns of the University's international women. Work continues to create a set of useful resources for and continue discussions of these difficult situations. The initial group of interested students have moved on but their excellent work has created an impressive array of SILF resources on which future efforts can build.
- My teaching on an individual basis instigated my creation of the Library Research Round Table's research mentoring program. Developed with the strong support of the LRRT steering committee and wider community, the mentoring program connects learners with teachers.
- On a community basis, I work with the Austin Children's Shelter, SafePlace, the Austin Public Library, and other local institutions. Most of that work is simply suggested by me and our top-notch Master's students actually carry out substantive projects as part of their work in my management class.
If you have any suggestions for or questions about any of these efforts, please let me know.
