Branch Conservation Technician

 

Formulate treatment plans for both circulating and special collections materials. Instituted a pest monitoring program and conduct weekly inspections.  Perform book repair tasks such as mending, boxing, re-casing, re-sewing, making new covers, re-backing and pamphlet binding.  Created book cradles and wedges for an in-house exhibit.  Coordinate treatment of materials sent to the main book repair unit.  Provide advice and assistance to circulation staff as needed. 

                             

Winterthur/University of Delaware Art Conservation Program – Winterthur, DE

2006

Mississippi Gulf Coast Recovery Project - Summer Intern

 

Performed mold mitigation and basic repair of books and photographs damaged by Hurricane Katrina.  Co-authored the mold section in the Winterthur Preventative Conservation Manual, outlining steps for the prevention, identification and recovery of a mold outbreak.  Assessed the condition of 119 stained glass cartoon drawings from the Winterthur collection and performed necessary conservation treatment including humidification and flattening, dry cleaning, minor mending, and re-housing.

    Digitized books, 35mm slides, photographs, and other special collection materials using both flatbed and orbital scanners and edited images using BookRestorer and Adobe Photoshop software.  Appended metadata to an online database.
