- Basic Internet skills and participation(10%)
Students' basic skills will be measured by simple assignments
during the semester. These assignments will include such tasks as
sending an email, uploading a file using FTP, setting up a simple web
page, and doing the hands-on exercises in class. Participation in class
discussions will also be taken into account.
- Quizzes (10% each) Four short in-class quizzes will be given
over the course of the semester. These quizzes will require basic
knowledge of course readings and material discussed in class. At the end
of the semester, the lowest score will be dropped. Quiz dates will not
be announced beforehand, and there will be no make-up quizzes.
- Assignment #1 (15%) Document a weblog

Student Performance
and Grading
You will be expected to attend and participate in class at each meeting
time. While an occasional absence may be unavoidable, more than three
absences will affect your grade. You will lose one letter grade from your
final course grade for each absence you have in excess of three. Please
contact the instructor if you know in advance that you will be missing a
class meeting. You will be responsible for getting any notes, assignments,
or readings from the instructor or fellow students.
Late assignments will lower your grade for that assignment by one full
letter grade (e.g., from A to B) for each day that they are late.
Present your best work. Sloppy or carelessly done assignments will be
penalized. I expect proper construction, grammar, and spelling on
all assignments.
Paper length: When writing papers for the course, length should
be judged based on a double-spaced, 8-1/2" x 11" piece of paper with 1"
margins, using a standard font not exceeding 12 points.
Academic or scholastic dishonesty, such as plagiarism, cheating, or
academic fraud will not be tolerated and will incur severe penalties,
including a failing grade for the course. All individual work is assumed
to be done individually and responsibly.
