ESTABLISH ISCHOOL ACCOUNT AND VERIFY UT EMAIL ADDRESS
Philip Doty, R. E. Wyllys, and Don Drumtra

Assignment Title: Establish iSchool Account and Verify UT Email Address.

Participation: Individual.

Format: Email.

Submission Method: Email to course emailbox.

Maximum points: 1.

Introduction:

Several assignments in this course require you to have an iSchool account and to use it, so that you will gain experience in working in a Unix-based environment, setting up Webpages, and uploading and downloading files. This assignment provides an opportunity for you to gain some knowledge of the account early on and to set up UT email to your preferred address. The iSchool account is where you will post your Web pages and experiment with Pine, which is the UNIX-based iSchool email system. You may also set up an email account with the University of Texas at Austin (viz., mail.utexas.edu). If you choose, you may automatically forward mail from either or both of these accounts to your preferred email address.

All UT students should have an email address on file with the registrar as part of their student records. This email address is used for all course communications from blackboard and electronic communication from the university. This address should be where you desire to receive course information and other information from UT. You may change this address online as often as you like. Information from this course will be sent to that address.

Goals: The goals of this assignment are twofold:

  • To familiarize you with the iSchool Website and the individual iSchool account that will be used for various assignments.

  • To familiarize you with the UT records updating process.
  • To provide the TA with your iSchool account.

Tasks: For this assignment, you will:

  1. Establish an iSchool account using instructions provided in the iSchool Website. (Direct links are provided on the course Syllabus page in case you have difficulty in navigating the iSchool Website.)

  2. Update your student on-line records:
    a. Go to the UT home page: http://www.utexas.edu.
    b. Click on UT directory on the top orange bar.
    c. Click on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
    d. Click on 1. How do I update my information in the Electronic Directory?
    e. Click on Address Update under students. (You may also update your employee records from the same link.)
    f.  Enter your UT EID and password and click Log In. (If you do not know your EID and password click on "I don't know my UT EID or Password." )
    g. Update your records as desired.
    h. When you are finished, be sure to log off to protect your password EID by clicking log off on the bottom right corner of the Webpage. If all goes well, you should be returned to the UT home page after logging off.

  3. Send an email message to the course emailbox providing your name, your location (Austin, El Paso, San Antonio, Waco, etc.), your iSchool account email address, and your UT email address.
