Grades for the course will be based on five factors:
COPYRIGHT ASSIGNMENT DUE DATE: April 13 The floor is yours. As a future information provider, how will you educate your patrons about copyright and plagiarism? Click on the assignment link below to get more details about how you and a partner will present your ideas to the class. EVALUATING INTERNET RESOURCES In order to use the best of what the Internet and other electronic resources have to offer, students must use certain skills to choose and evaluate resources appropriate for their assigned or personal task. With your Web site building group, your task is to create and present, a Web evaluation rubric that would be appropriate for the audience that your Web site will be targeting. When presenting your rubric to the class, you should show the skills necessary to use your rubric to evaluate Internet resources. Your rubric should target the audience that your Web site is geared toward and should show application to at least two online sources. You will need to provide copies of your rubric for everyone in the class. Be sure to put your names and the target audience at the top of the rubric page.TOPIC OR ISSUE PAPER As professionals, it is one of our
obligations to think about what we do and wonder about the implications
of our work. Here is your opportunity to explore a topic or issue that
interests you personally. Choose a topic that relates to the course. It
could be a topic that we are not addressing to your satisfaction during
this semester or one that you wish to explore in more detail. It may be
one that we This assignment will be done individually. I will be looking for intellectual engagement and reflective thought about the issue. Email your topic to Dr. Immroth and the TA for approval by February 16. The final paper should be written in 12 point type and double-spaced. Your paper should have parenthetical citations and a Works Cited page. There are no specified page number requirements. Write until you feel you have thoroughly addressed your topic. Turn in your printed paper on the due date. We will be sharing our papers informally during the following class sessions.
WEB SPACE DUE DATE: May 4 Working in
groups of 2 to 3, you will create a web space for children and/or young
adults. This space should bring together electronic information
resources currently available on a topic of your choosing. Attendance and class participation In this class we will be learning together, constructing meaning in a social and electronic environment. As such, the active engagement of ALL class members is crucial. The learning of your classmates is, in part, dependent upon you. Be on time and in class every day that we meet, read the assigned selections, and be prepared to discuss them. Please don't be content to sit and let others do the talking in class. You have ideas from which we can all benefit, and your grade depends on your sharing those ideas in whole and small group sessions. If you miss class, your grade will be affected. About the Blackboard Discussion Board This will be the artifact we produce together—the result of our joint exploration of the Web and discussion of the issues surrounding the use of the resources available on the Internet for children and YA. You will need to make contributions to the discussion board regularly. Your job is to comment with informed and impassioned opinions on required readings as well as to recommend additional readings or web sites for assigned topics.
