Course Objectives

1. 1. To introduce students to established and emerging fields of library and information science domain for the purpose of orienting students to the breadth of this dynamic and growing realm of knowledge and practice.

2. To give students a historical perspective on the broad library and information science domain as a context for understanding the development of and current issues across the domain.

3. To stimulate student thinking, from the beginning of each student’s program of study, on the interconnections between and among the fields and facets of the domain, recognition of which is essential for each professional information specialist to operate optimally in the domain.

4. To encourage participation in learning through emphasis on thoughtful discussion of readings, integrating them into a realistic perception of the domain.
