Paper Conservation Treatments

Humidification and mending
This treatment involved a pocket map of Texas printed in 1835.
It was removed from its cover, humidified, flattened and mended.

See the treatment report and photographs for further detail.

Backing removal and mending on an architectural drawing
This watercolor presentation drawing was mounted on acidic, brittle

board. The board was removed, tears were mended and losses were
filled. Areas were inpainted to maintain the integrity of the image.

See the treatment report and photographs for further detail.

Adhesive removal

This letter, written by Sam Houston in 1835, had been previously
repaired with glassine and pressure sensitive tapes. The tape and
adhesive stains were removed with ethyl alcohol and the letter was
lined with heat-set tissue.

See the treatment report and photographs for further detail.

Silking Removal
This letter was lined on both sides with silk. The silk was removed,
and the paper was filled and mended with Japanese tissue.

See the treatment report and photographs for further detail

This letter was lined on one side with thin paper. The paper lining

with gossamer-thin heat-set tissue.
