Skills/Abilities
Conservation
- Experience with rare book repairs, restorations, disbinding and rebinding techniques. Familiar with general bindery productions using typical bindery machinery and equipment.
- Experience with paper conservation techniques such as dry cleaning, mending, filling, and inpainting.
- Experience with examination and condition report writing, proper conservation record keeping as well as proper handling, and storage techniques for a variety of objects.
- Extensive experience with textile conservation treatment techniques.
- Able to carry out minor treatments of paintings such as surface cleaning, consolidation, dusting, patching, and inpainting.
- Comfortable with the preparation of solvents and the use of a variety of conservation lab equipment.
- Familiar with current periodical and research sources for conservation topics.
Museum/Gallery/Collections
- Consolidated the personal textile collection of Harold Mailand, Textile Conservator, Indianapolis, IN.
- Cataloged and processed entries for the “60 Square Inches” small print competition at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, as well as assisted with gallery exhibit installations.
- Familiar with accession procedures for new acquisitions in museum, gallery, and personal collections.
- Able to adapt easily to new collections procedures that may vary from institutions.
Framing
- Comfortable with operating a dry mount press, automated and manual mat board cutters, glass and plexiglass cutter, and wide range of small hand tools, and conservation framing techniques.
- Worked extensively with customers to assist with choosing an aesthetically pleasing frame as well as a stable environment for the artistic project.
Computer
- Comfortable with Mac and PC environments, Microsoft Office Suite, FileMaker Pro and other data base entry programs, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Framing software (Frame Magic and Lifesaver), internet browsers, and a variety of standard computer programs.
Languages
- Fluent in Ukrainian, proficient in French, basic reading, writing, and conversation skills in German.
