Short Title: "Memoir of Sir Charles Barry, Achitect"
Current Condition: The case has become detached from the text block and represents the main component in the deterioration of the item. In addition the sewing of the text block has broken down and needs to be resewn. The endsheets and some text pages are tearing and breaking down.
Proposed Treatment: The existing spine lining should be cleaned off and in this case the book should be resewn. Any tissue repairs on the signatures will need to be addressed prior to resewing the text block. After the sewing, new linings can be adhered to the spine. The endsheets need some stabilization with Japanese tissue. Once treated the endsheets will be reattached to the text block and then to the existing cover with a tissue hinge. Additionally the cover needs slight reinforcement to areas in the joints at the head and tail of the book. Despite the invasiveness of the needed treatment the existing cover should be reusable as one complete piece.
