Recommendations from Other Project Group, 11.23.04

My responses to some of these recommendations are in italics after each:

1) State who Andrew Dillon is. (Changed.)
2) Add more vertical space between text and “Related Terms”.
3) “Related Terms” – will the frame remain visible? (As a group, I think we decided that we did want the frame visible.)
4) Check indentation on local navigation bar. What’s the relation of “Research and Pubs,” etc., with “What is IA”? Are they offshoots of that? Is “What is IA” higher on the hierarchy? (It seems like they are confused by the lower-level items under IA at UT. What should we do about this?)
5) Font size of “Andrew Dillon” competes with “IA Industry Definitions.”
6) IA Resources – We were expecting links to resources, not so much FAQs. This seems to overlap with “What is IA?”. (Valerie changed/added content on this page to reflect some of these expectations.)

Thanks, all - Misty

meeting note 11/3

Hey guys,

Here are our meeting notes from Wed. I will add them to the project site.

We have designated the home page and four lower levels to each group member to create a template. If there is missing content for any of those pages, that person will work on that content.

Jessica-IA Hub Homepage--We talked about getting text from Dean Dillon, but I think this would be a good spot for Turnbull. I think it should talk about Big IA vs. Little IA. I wouldn't mind writing this myself either.

Li-What is IA?--Some content from Dean Dillon and a list of links are already in the ssh, and li will work on industry definitions--we can all help out, as necessary.

Val-IA at UT--We've got courses and curriculum. Val will work on people, and we will verify next week with Dean dillon what we need in the Research and Pubs. section.

Misty-IA Resources--We have related IA links, Misty needs to work on Common Questions, and the Discussion Forum and IA job board are future implementations.

Amy-News & Events--This section is for future implementation, but Amy will design how it will look in the future.

Oh, and I plan to look over the designs to see where pictures would fit nicely. This may mean that we have to alter our templates a little. Is that a huge problem? I haven't started mine yet, so I don't know how complicated that will be.

Feel free to add anything I have forgotten.

Have a nice weekend!
Jess

Content Docs

Hello ladies,

I have put some content docs in the public html folder within the IAHUB folder. They are word docs that basically just need to be copied and pasted into the pages when they are made. These are a little rough, but I thought it would help to start getting things organized.

Okay, I have some suggestions for the map, val--in the 'What is IA? 1.1' section, you have the 'Welcome from Dean Dillon' listed. I think this should be a 'What is IA' description provided by either Dean Dillon or Turnbull. Dean Dillon's text actually had an IA description, so I created a doc that had that info. We could also use some text from Turnbull when we get it.

I think we should have a wecome from Dillon, but that should go on the home page. We don't have any of that text, so can you guys request that he write a short welcome in the meeting?

We also need to verify all of the profs involved in IA for our faculty section. Someone may know that, but I don't.

I have some suggestions for the map, but I need to sit down and talk about it with the sketches in front of me. No major changes--I think there are a few issues with levels of where text will sit. I can't explain it in email, but I will tomorrow.

I will have more later.

Happy election day!

Jess

Hi all,

Have you recieved the emails from Turnbull and Dillon? Turnbull prefers next Tuesday just after the class, and Dillon prefers next Wednesday. Just let you know this. What are your schedules for next week. You are free to reply the emails from Turnbull and Dillon. Tuesday and wednesday are both OK for me.

Happy weekend.

Cardsorting, Sketches, & Meeting with Kai

Hi, team -

I'm putting the Cardsorting pdf and the pdf of Jessica's design sketches in SSH right now, so we can put a link to each on the site when we meet this eve.

Some of my notes from the meeting with Kai last Thursay (10/21):

1) We talked about the IA Hub interacting with the rest of the iSchool site much like the PCS portion already does. We also talked about navigation placement possibilities and using the iSchool template / CSS in place for all the other pages.

2) He gave us the template that the iSchool site template code that Val just sent:

?
include "local.inc";

# FORMAT: StartPage(LocalAreaID, LocalAreaName (for display),
localPageTitle (for display), Javascript, Metadata Search Keywords);

StartPage("OnlineJobSources", "Archives", "", "", "archives,
records"); ?>

3) We talked about the possibility of auto-generating breadcrumbs, but he said that this is a future wish but not an immediate plan for the whole iSchool site.

4) His file-naming convention is underscore_separated_titles.html.

More tonight! - Misty

About server platform

In the tools & technologies section, we should introduce our server platform. The server platform used before:

Macintosh G4/OS X
Apache HTTP Server 1.3.26
PHP 4.3.3

We can ask the webmaster if the server platform has been changed.
