
Bias, Randolph |
Randolph has worked in industry for over
20 years as a usability engineer, helping software developers
make human-computer interfaces, including web sites, user
friendly. After stints with Bell Labs, IBM, and
BMC Software (where he created and managed the Usability
Department), Randolph co-founded Austin Usability, an
independent usability lab and consultancy. Randolph has
written over 50 technical articles in the areas of human
information processing, and co-edited Cost-Justifying
Usability (R. G. Bias and D. J. Mayhew, Eds., 1994, Cambridge:
Academic Press). He is a Certified Human Factors Practitioner,
and is active in professional societies such as the Human
Factors and Ergonomics Society and the Usability Professionals
Society. Randolph has taught undergraduate and graduate
courses in psychology and statistics at The University
of Texas at Austin, Rutgers University, Huston-Tillotson
College, and Southwest Texas State University, plus has
taught many short courses for industry. He is a vigorous
advocate for designing technology to fit the user. Current

Chris Ewing

Will Finish a Master's Degree in Information
Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin in May
of 2001. Received a BS in Biology from Abilene Christian
University in 1990 and a Paramedic Certification from
Texas Tech Health Sciences El Paso (1994). Upon leaving
the Paramedic Field became an Assistant Web Administrator
for an El Paso High School and taught HTML along with
graphic/multimedia to students. For the past two years
have been heavily in to acquisition, design, navigation,
and organization of Web information. Is a cofounder of
the UTIAG. Interests include Information Architecture,
user centered design, graphic/multimedia design, and competitive
intelligence. |

Marlene Graham

and Information Science at The University of Texas at
Austin. I am a second year student and will graduate the
summer of 2002. Received a BA in Middle Eastern Studies
(Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Utah. Graduate
of the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA, in Turkkish.
I have lived abroad (Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Germany
and Belgium) for 17 years. I have worked for school districts,
the US Government, private industry and owned my own business.
My current interests are creating databases as well as
development and use of information architecture. I plan
working on as many projects this year as possible. |

Erik R. Magnuson

Erik R. Magnuson will receive
his Masters degree from the GSLIS in December of 2001.
He has an undergraduate background in history and education.
Aside from being a full time student, he currently works
as a computer technician and is also engaged in an internship
at Austin Usability, an Austin-based usability lab. Erik
was involved in the UTIAG's first project,
a redesign of the IA for the San Antonio Public Library's
website. Current projects include designing a portal page
for the GSLIS IT Lab and a comprehensive analysis and
reengineering of The Texas Army National Guard's Environmental
Management System. Erik's primary interests include
usability/user-centered design, information architecture,
information retrieval, and law librarianship.

Brown Inc., 1999-2000. In this position responsible
for the redesign of a military website and intranet. Served
in the US Navy between 1991-1999 as an Information Operations
planning officer and an Electronic Warfare Mission Commander
onboard the EP-3E
reconnaissance aircraft. Hold a BA in Political Science
from the University of Pennsylvania (1991) and a Certificate
of French Language from the University of Paris, Sorbonne
