Fossil has developed a watch with a Palm OS, coming out this summer.
I know I'd lose the stylus, and four days of battery life seems like it could be a real hassle, but I bet it catches on....
The "next generation" watch seems to be a new focus. This one actually receives instant messages.
So, do you think you'll get one?
In the 90s, their big thing was the "Pager Watch" (I worked for Fossil as Designer from 93-95). The thing I dislike about integrated wrist watch technology is size. I have a small wrist and most of the feature rich watches designed for women are too clunky and get in the way of normal wrist motion range. I've actually reverted back to my 1987 Swatch (but I won't tell my Fossil friends that).
Posted by: Amanda on March 24, 2003 07:45 PMI agree. I don't wear watches anymore because they seem to aggravate my RSI problems (I stopped wearing my wedding ring for the same reason). However, my husband might just want one of these for Christmas!
The big problem is the amount of memory. 2MB is good for addressbook, datebook, todos, and maybe short memos. You could play games, but who'd want to on that tiny screen? I'm already at the point where I'm wishing my Treo had an expansion slot!
Posted by: danielle on March 24, 2003 07:57 PMFor the truly geek-chic (OK, I know I'm not using that properly) IBM protyped a watch that runs Linux. When I lived in Philly I used my PDA to download newspaper articles to read on the train, but I never really found another use for it, so it just gathers dust here.
Posted by: mcchris on March 24, 2003 11:39 PMThis watch seems like torture-- it's only able to receive instant messages? I can't even resist replying to "bye" IMs...
Posted by: patrick on March 25, 2003 08:23 AMI don't think I'd get one...I think it will be far too clunky to wear, but too small to be really functional.
It seems like an item targeted for Christmas sales, frankly.
