I don't suppose anyone out there has had success creating their personal blogsite using Radio Userland. Although I've downloaded and installed RU, when I launch it, it can't find my browser, even though they're in the same folder. I can't figure out how to "lead the horse to water." Any suggestions?
Katherine, are you having any better success with Blogger?
Posted by LisaB at March 15, 2003 09:04 AMI've got Radio working pretty well now, although I did a lot of customization. I had the same problem with RUL not finding the default browser, and I checked their discussion boards for help. Essentially, I learned that RUL uses the system defaults to select a browser, so if you select a different browser when you're installing the program or change default browsers after the fact, it can't open the browser automatically. That probably made no sense!
Here's the fix:
1. Go to the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel, then open the Folder Options, click on the File Types tab, and scroll down to HTM and HTML. In the 'Details' portion of the screen, it should tell you which program is set to open these file types. Make sure it's set to the same program as you told RUL to use (I suggest IE, because you get the advantage of some WYSIWIG editing tools, although I usually prefer Mozilla). Click the 'Change' button to make any changes.
2. If you selected IE, you can confirm that it's set to be the default browser by opening it, clicking on Tools > Internet Options, selecting the "Program" tab, and checking the box labelled "Internet Explorer should check whether it is the default browser" and then clicking "Reset Web settings." Hit apply or OK.
3. I suggest that you restart Windows. I do this whenever I make changes to the settings.
4. Try opening Radio again. It may work correctly now.
Posted by: Danielle on March 15, 2003 11:12 PMI used Blogger to setup a personal blogsite in February, just for fun. I found it super easy to setup and even to edit the template a bit. I put it on my own ISP site and was up in running in about 20 min. Overall I was impressed with the ease-of-use.
