Binding: Poor condition: previously repaired multiple
problems (deterioration of leather covering material, loss of
spine material, detached board, and loose leaves) via black starch
filled clother covering over original leather. Issues: non-contemporary,
broken, adhesive failure, and unsightly

torn, discolored. Stained at top (front) and at spine (throughout)

1. Removed black cloth from spine with methyl cellulose
2. Disbinded and dry cleaned.
3. Washed textblock; added calcium carbonate as an alkaline reserve.
4. Guarded sections throughout with toned Japanese paper. Mended
tears
5. Sewed textblock all along on 4-cord sewing supports.
6. Lined spine with one layer of Japanese paper, a cloth lining,
and paper lining between sewing supports.
7. Attached one-on western paper hollow tube to spine.
8. Using new boards, created new case with toned calf leather.
9. Created custom box to house binding and previous boards.
