Honoring Generations, an IMLS supported scholarship,
supports American Indian students interested in careers
in tribal librarianship. Scholarships have been available for six students to
enroll in a 40 graduate credit hour in-residence program at the University
of Texas at Austin in the School
of Information.
Honoring Generations focuses on four priorities:
- recruitment
- professional education
- mentoring
- service-learning
Students will complete, within three calendar years, the forty semester
hours required for a Master
of Science in Information Studies from the School
of Information (SI) at the University of Texas at Austin. These 40
semester hours will include nineteen hours in required courses and twenty-one
credit hours in elective courses. Students may choose to organize their
coursework around one of three themes:
- tribal school librarianship
- tribal community (public) librarianship
- tribal academic librarianship
