In Fall 2002, the School of Information became an affiliate of the University
of Texas's Graduate
Writing Project, itself a collaboration between the Intellectual Entrepreneurship
(IE) program
and the Undergraduate Writing Center (UWC).
The
Graduate Writing Project provides writing support for graduate students
at the University of Texas. The GWP is committed to student accountability
for and ownership of their discipline.
GWP consultants serve as sounding boards rather than experts. While each
graduate consultant undergoes extensive professional training, consultants
do not presume to know the "right" or even "best"
way to write. Rather, the GWP's philosophy is that writing is a conversation,
and consultants seek to provide graduate students with an audience for
their discourse. Through collaboration, consultants nurture writers and
their work, which in turn fosters both the writer's and the consultant's
learning process.

Individual Consultations
The heart of the Graduate Writing Project is individual consultations
with student writers. Consultations can occur at any point in the writing
process and are focused on improving the writer's skills. Proofreading
and editorial services are not offered, but consultants can work with
students to improve both grammar and clarity.
Workshops
Our consultants teach a variety of short courses and workshops on writing
topics. Workshops this spring will include:

Class Mentoring
Consultants can work intensively with selected iSchool classes. If think
your class would be interested, ask your professor to contact a consultant.
Writing Resources
We have compiled a list of online writing resources
in the hope that it might be of use to iSchool writers. Although the
list is by no means comprehensive, it highlights some UT resources and
some non-UT links that are among our favorites.
