Welcome! The week is finally here! For Day One:1. Please print off membership cards for A Gathering of Readers. There is a card for Kids and a card for Teens. You can download from Word or Adobe Acrobe.2. Read about the Participating Schools so everyone will be acquainted with each other. I'm not sure about the status of the Powwow (discussion board), but will let you know when it is up and working Sorry about that!3. Please explore the Web site! For Day Two:1. Help Sheila find her lost, favorite toy by following her throughout the Web site. Go to the Kids' Virtual Scavenger Hunt or the Teens' Virtual Scavenger Hunt.2. You might want to start thinking about the Art Contest. There is an art contest for Kids and an art contest for Teens. Please postmark art by April 27 and we should have it posted on the Web site by the end of May. You can also email art to loriene@ischool.utexas.edu.3. Visit the International Children's Digital Library. This free online library has hundreds of children's books from all over the world and in several different languages. Unfortunately, while there are books from New Zealand, there are not any books from Zambia. The books from Africa are from the countries of Egypt, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.Day 4:Sorry we haven't updated the message since Tuesday. I've been in New Mexico and without Internet access. We've had lots of fun visiting Santa Clara Day School and Ojo Encino Day School. We split up into two groups so one group is also visiting Santa Fe Indian School today. We are also excited to visit a few of the participating schools in New Mexico from Wednesday, April 20 to Friday, April 22. We wish we could visit all of your schools. Maybe in the future!Who is the "group"? Visit the About Us page, which is still in progress. The group consists of 11 members, one is our advisor and "If I Can Read, I Can Do Anything" Chair Dr. Loriene Roy. Nine members are students at the School of Information studying to work in various types of libraries. Each member has contributed great ideas and different talents to the celebration. The final member is Sheila the Dog, our mascot! You'll see her throughout this Web site and even help her find her favorite toy in the virtual scavenger hunt. Also, in case you haven't noticed we now have Web pages with the new designs for the Kids' Circle and the Teens' Circle. These areas of the Web site are still in progress, but feel free to look around. Please email Dr. Loriene Roy or Deborah if you have any questions or problems regarding this Web site.Until next week....Deborah
