Build institutional capacity to educate digital
librarians by developing future faculty and library managers and through
student recruitment into a program that offers a three-tiered technology-centric
digitization curriculum that
documents and researches policy and issues related to digital libraries.
Objective 1. Develop and evaluate curriculum to provide for
a specialization in digital library studies that educates and trains
skilled and knowledgeable librarians for a variety of digital library
related careers.
Objective 2. Create a teaching and digitization infrastructure
that supports 3 tiers of instruction on digitization expertise.
Objective 3. Recruit,
educate, and prepare School of Information students (five Master's
and one PhD) who understand the fundamentals of building and managing
digital collections. (Tier
1)
Objective 4. Recruit and educate a group of digital library
specialists, capable of planning, designing, and managing the full range
of digital library initiatives. (Tier 2)
Objective 5. Initiate
research and publications that track best practices, create models
for preparing digital librarians, and lay the groundwork for further
research in digitization education. (Tier
3)
