VENEER FILLS
This card table was exposed to water which resulted in portions of the veneer coming loose. A matching veneer was selected and used to fill the areas of loss with an epoxy, which was later inpainted.

ROCKING CHAIR
This early nineteenth century rocking chair was on display in the bedroom of Jefferson Davis at Beauvoir.  The finish on the right leg of the rocking chair had become blanched and spotted, and a portion of the ornamental craving on the crest rail of the chair was missing.  The leg was inpainted to match the surrounding finish, and the area of missing ornament was filled with a reversible putty and in-painted.

RAZOR KNIFE
This badly corroded razor was recovered at Beauvoir in 2005. The rust and chloride corrosion products rusted which resulted from exposure to  flood water had rusted the blade into a fixed position. Removing the corrosion products stabilized the object and allowed the blade to fully open and close again.

KNIFE

This knife is one of several objects from a box of small finds that I am working through. The small finds box generally consist of metal objects that have suffered from severe corrosion such as this table knife. The treatment of this knife included removing the chlorides and other corrosion products from the surface to stabilize the object.
