Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina)--Bosnia's National and University Library in flames, August 26, 1992, after
it was set ablaze by incendiary shells fired from Serb nationalist artillery positions on the heights overlooking the library.
More than a million books and valuable archival materials were destroyed in the fire, which consumed an estimated 90% of the library's
collections. (photograph by Milomir Kovacevic) |
