Searching the ALA Bulletin for examples of digital equity and the digital divide yielded a negative search. There were only two noteworthy occurrences, but unfortunately, neither
addressed the digital equity or divide. "Ultra-microfiche" was
introduced in March 1969. A 4 x 6 inch fiche could hold up to 3000 page
images. MARC, MAchine Readable Cataloging that introduced Library of Congress
standards through digital bibliographic formatting in a magnetic tape
system, was upgraded to MARC II. MARC II tapes were available commercially
after July 1, 1968, and at that time, MARC represented 50,000 carried
titles in libraries.
