Links & Anchors

It is important to note that the full URL must be used when linking to pages outside your site - http://www.ischool.utexas.edu/~your_user_name.

  • As is the case with many of Dreamweaver's functions, there are many paths to the same end. My preferred method for inserting links is through the Properties window.
  • Highlight the text you would like to link.
  • Click in the "link" field in the Properties window. Enter the URL of the page you would like to link to.
  • If you are linking to a page within your site, you need only enter the filename.html.

Anchors are links within a page, e.g. "back to top."

  • First you must insert an anchor - that is the point in your page the link will jump to. There are two ways of doing this:

    1. 1. the anchor icon on the Insert window
      2. Insert > Named Anchor
  • A window will appear prompting you for a name. Keep it simple.
  • Next, type the text for your link, highlight it, and in the "link" field of the Properties window, type a # sign and then the name you gave your anchor.
