Before Installation

Before download and installation, you will need to perform a few preparatory steps.

Step 1:
Confirm that your computer meets the minimum system requirements:

  • Macintosh system with PowerPC G3 or higher processor
  • Macintosh OS X version 10.1.5 or higher
  • 128 MB of RAM (required for Macintosh OS X)
  • 40 MB of available hard disk space
  • Internet connection

Step 2:
Log in with a user name and password for an account with administrative privileges.

Step 3:
Close all programs on your Macintoshhine, so that you won't lose work when you restart the Macintoshhine during this installation.

Step 4:
Be sure to uninstall any other anti-virus applications, so that they do not interfere with the Symantec AntiVirus installation process. During installation, the Norton AntiVirus 9.0 installer for OS X removes Norton AntiVirus 7.0.2 for OS X, or Norton AntiVirus 8.0.x for OS X, if they are installed. For other applications, follow manufacturer instructions for uninstall, or consult the following web page for more information about uninstalling applications on a Macintosh:
