Enabling and Disabling Cookies
Let's take a quick look at some of the most common ways you might want
to change your Cookie settings.
Remember to click OK for your changes to
take effect.
- Block Cookies. This
option will prevent all sites from placing cookies on your drive.
Note that many sites will lose a great deal of functionality if you block
cookies. For example, online stores won't be able to keep track of
the items in your shopping cart.
- Allow Cookies
for the originating web site only. This option allows you
to reject third-party or "foreign" cookies. Sometimes the
web sites you visit will display third-party content such as images,
advertisements, or web traffic counters. Essentially, a site you've
never visited can store and read the cookies it places on your
computer.
- Allow Cookies based on Privacy
Settings. Many sites maintain privacy policies that
describe how much information is collected and how it will be used.
Mozilla has defined several levels of Privacy based upon these published
policies. Selecting this option will allow you to accept or reject
cookies based upon the following predetermined privacy levels: low,
medium, and high.
By default, Mozilla maintains a privacy
setting of Medium.
To View or Change your current
Privacy Setting:

- On the Cookies menu, click the View button beside the option, Allow
cookies based on privacy settings.
- The Privacy Settings menu will
open, showing your browser's current level of security (low, medium, high,
or custom).
- Choose a new Privacy Setting, if you like, by
clicking the appropriate radio button.
- Please review the Cookie
Acceptance Policy on the lower portion of the menu to see how cookies will
be treated based upon your Privacy level setting.
- Click OK.
