Information Communication Technologies

Dr. Bias is involved on an NSF grant proposal with PI Diane Bailey, School of Information assistant professor,

  1. to examine how information and communication technologies (ICTs) mediate emerging remote occupational socialization in a global context by comparatively studying this process in the context of four case studies spread across Brazil, India, Mexico, Poland, and the US,
  2. to build a model of remote occupational socialization based upon these case studies, and
  3. to draw insights for the design, implementation, and use of ICTs that enable people to enter occupations previously inaccessible to them, and in some cases, to reinvent occupations for new social contexts.

Community Embedded Digital Literacy

Dr. Bias joined PI Lynn Westbrook, School of Information associate professor, on an IMLS grant proposal on Community Embedded Digital Literacy, designed to educate two doctoral students in the socio-cultural structures of digital literacy and community-embedded information design. Digital literacy, like information literacy, requires skills (i.e., identifying, locating, retrieving, and managing information) as well as critical thinking (i.e., evaluating, analyzing, and using information). We hope to study this, in particular in specific needy populations.
